About Syria
Syria, officially known as the Syrian Arab Republic, is a country located in the Middle East, bordered by Turkey to the north, Iraq to the east, Jordan to the south, Israel and Lebanon to the southwest, and the Mediterranean Sea to the west. With a rich history that dates back to ancient civilizations, Syria is often referred to as the cradle of civilization, being home to some of the oldest cities in the world, such as Damascus, its capital, which is considered one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities on Earth. The country's diverse cultural heritage is reflected in its numerous archaeological sites, including the ancient city of Palmyra and the Crusader castle of Krak des Chevaliers. However, since 2011, Syria has been embroiled in a devastating civil war, leading to significant loss of life, displacement of millions, and widespread destruction of its infrastructure and cultural heritage. Despite its current challenges, Syria remains a land of immense historical significance and resilience.
