About Kosovo
Kosovo, officially known as the Republic of Kosovo, is a partially recognized country located in the Balkans in Southeastern Europe. It declared independence from Serbia on February 17, 2008, a move that has been recognized by over 100 United Nations member states, though Serbia and some other countries, including Russia and China, do not recognize its sovereignty. Kosovo is landlocked and bordered by Serbia to the north and east, North Macedonia to the southeast, Albania to the southwest, and Montenegro to the west. The capital and largest city is Pristina, which serves as the political, economic, and cultural hub of the country. Kosovo has a diverse population, with ethnic Albanians forming the majority, alongside smaller communities of Serbs, Bosniaks, Turks, and others. The country has a rich history, with influences from the Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman, and Yugoslav eras, and it is known for its stunning landscapes, including the Rugova Mountains and the Mirusha Waterfalls. Despite its young statehood, Kosovo faces challenges such as economic development, political stability, and international recognition, but it continues to strive for integration into European and global institutions.
