Iran, officially known as the Islamic Republic of Iran, is a country located in Western Asia, bordered by Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan to the north, Afghanistan and Pakistan to the east, and Turkey and Iraq to the west. It also has coastlines along the Caspian Sea to the north and the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman to the south. With a rich history dating back thousands of years, Iran is one of the world's oldest continuous civilizations, home to ancient empires such as the Achaemenid, Parthian, and Sassanian.
