About Gibraltar
Gibraltar is a small but strategically significant British Overseas Territory located at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula, overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar, which connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea. Known as "The Rock," its iconic limestone promontory dominates the landscape and serves as a symbol of the territory. Gibraltar covers just 6.7 square kilometers but boasts a rich history shaped by its strategic location, having been contested by various powers over centuries, including the Moors, Spanish, and British. Today, it is a vibrant multicultural hub with a population of around 34,000 people, blending British, Spanish, and other Mediterranean influences. The territory is famous for its Barbary macaques, the only wild monkeys in Europe, and its thriving economy, driven by tourism, shipping, and financial services. Despite its small size, Gibraltar remains a point of geopolitical interest, particularly in its ongoing territorial dispute between the UK and Spain.
